YES ! the headline is 100% correct, Biafra was a real hell for most of it’s citizens, especially its most vunerable as in the women; children and elderly. Beset and besieged by Nigerian armed forces from the North; West; South sea coast and helmed in to the East by an unfriendly Cameroon, starvation had become rife by 1968 when the flegling young nation turned a year old.
This report is from Eket, in today’s Akwa Ibom state and shows how the women and children were now starved to the point of death by the deadly food blockade imposed by Nigeria, this policy which was a clear contravention of human rights and war etiquttes regarding non-combatants was rubber stamped by top Nigerian officials like Chief Awolowo, the Nigerian Finance minister and defacto Prime minister and Chief Enahoro its Information commisioner, obviously since Nigeria was openly backed by 2 of the world’s super powers, Britain and Russia at the time nothing was done internationally to break the blockade, neither was anyone indicted for war crimes.
