Nigeria Releases Two Britons – Zambia Recognizes Biafra

Lagos, May 20, 1968 – Two British businessmen who had been cut off in Port-Harcourt and suspected by the invading Nigerian federal troops of bein Biafran mercenaries are being released and returned to Lagos. A British High Commission spokesman in Lagos said “The misunderstanding has been cleared up and I believe they are being released today.”

Zambia Recognizes Biafra

Lusaka, May 20, 1968 – The Federal Nigerian Government is to break off diplomatic relations with Zambia, which today recognized the breakaway republic of Biafra. Zambia became the fourth country after Tanzania, Gabon and Ivory Coast (Cote D’Ivoire) to recognize Biafra.
