Lagos, May 27, 1968 – Sir, Having recently returned from Biafra, I have witnessed at first hand the destruction wrought in densely populated civilian centers by ‘Soviet Ilyushin and MiG’ aircraft piloted by Egyptians. The Bombing and strafing of Agwu and Umuahia markets, of Aba and Owerri, cannot in a sense be described as attacks of military targets.
Recent statements made in Lagos show conclusively that the Federal Military Government are now admitting the bombing of non-military targets in Biafra.
During the Biafran war, the Nigerian warplanes mostly flown by foreign mercenary pilots routinely targeted the Biafran civilian populations and bombed markets, churches, hospitals and schools etc. The Nigerian media and military spokespeople denied these atrocities but this article shows an admission finally.
